COEUR d’ALENE — With six players out, Sandpoint boys basketball suffered a 63-41 loss to Lake City on Saturday night.

The victory completed a season sweep of the Bulldogs for the Timberwolves who beat Sandpoint 61-38 at the SMS gym last Tuesday.

The Bulldogs were able to keep up with Lake City in the first half but the Timberwolves outscored them 42-23 in the second half.

“Lake City in the second half just shot the ball great and that was the difference in the game,” head coach Wade Engelson said. “They were able to pull away late but our guys competed every possession, battled and showed a lot of heart ... I’m proud of our guys they stood up to adversity and did everything they could do.”

With only seven players able to suit up for Sandpoint, Engelson said fatigue started to set in down the stretch with the kids competing for extended minutes.

“My hats off to Lake City,” Engelson said. “It wasn’t like we were playing bad defense, we were playing excellent defense against them and they just have very skilled players that can shoot the ball and they showed us that in the third and fourth quarter.”

Seniors Ryan Roos and Christian Niemela each scored 11 points.

The Bulldogs (7-9) host Bonners Ferry 7 p.m. Tuesday.
