Bernadine Brosz Jurkovich, 87
Bernadine C. Brosz was born April 13, 1932, in Gackle, N.D; the only child of Edwin E. and Adeline Bloch Brosz. Bernadine spent the first nine years of her life among the large, close families of her parents. After the separation and divorce of her parents, Bernadine and her mother moved to Osburn, Idaho, where she finished her grade school years.
In 1950 she graduated from Kellogg High School. In July of that same year, Bernadine became the bride of John Jurkovich. That union was to last 69 years. After the birth of their three children, Bernadine was an active volunteer at their schools, for the PTA and as Campfire leader. With her children all in school, she began part-time work at First Federal Savings and Loan, where she spent the next 17 years before she retired after the adoption of their youngest child.
In 1990, after John’s retirement, they moved to Hayden, Idaho. Time was spent between the home in Hayden and the lake cabin at Carlin Bay, on Lake Coeur d’Alene. The cabin was the family meeting place to enjoy boating and fishing for the next 30 years.
During her retirement, Bernadine was able to enjoy many hobbies including oil and china painting, quilting and other crafts. She enjoyed volunteering at Kootenai Medical Center for 20 years. She was an active member of Christ the King Lutheran Church. In the later years of her life, she was Nanna to her great-grandsons and attended many soccer games.
Bernadine was preceded in death by her parents, Adeline Cameron and Edwin Brosz. Bernadine is survived by her brother, Murdo (Toni) Cameron; her children Larry Jurkovich of Grangeville, Gayle (Rolly) Woolsey of Boise, John Cory (Susan) Jurkovich of Rathdrum, Jennifer Tuttle (Ben) of Hayden; five grandchildren: Aaron, Michael, Jake, Jason and Julia; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Bernadine’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2020, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1700 E Pennsylvania Ave., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, with a reception following.
