When facing a team with a rich winning tradition like Arlee, on their home court, even in what has been a down year for the Warriors, anything can happen.

The Plains Horsemen found that out Saturday night when they were ambushed by the Warriors in a 75-54 boys Class C basketball upset loss.

After battling the hosts to a 15-15 first quarter tie, Plains fell behind in the second quarter and found themselves trailing 38-31 at halftime.

It got worse in the third quarter as Arlee outscored the Horsemen 25-10, to go up 63-41 heading into the final eight minutes of play. Arlee held that advantage in the fourth quarter and went on to record the upset over visitors from Plains.

Arlee, which won the state Class C title in 2017 and 2018, got a game high 21 points from Billy Fisher and another 17 points from senior Cody Tanner.

David Haynes and Nathan Feliska were also in double digits for the Warriors with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Haynes went over the 100-point mark, too.

Treydon Brouillette topped the Horsemen with 18 points while point guard Jake Weyers had 11.

The loss dropped Plains to 11-3 on the year heading into this week’s highly anticipated rematch with St. Regis, on the Tigers’ home court. St. Regis, ran its record to 13-1 over the weekend with a pair of wins against Noxon and Seeley-Swan.
