Colbey Nosworthy made all sorts of plays as a wide receiver, safety and punt returner the last two seasons at Coeur d’Alene High.

The Idaho Vandals offered him a scholarship early in his senior season with the Vikings, and Nosworthy verbally committed to the Vandals last week, and made it official by signing a letter of intent Wednesday.

Idaho recruited Nosworthy as an “athlete,” meaning his position will be determined later. He said he doesn’t care which side of the ball he plays — or even if he plays a little on both sides of the ball.

“Just wherever I can get on the field the earliest,” Nosworthy said.

Nosworthy was one of 10 athletes to sign with the Idaho football team, the Vandals announced on Wednesday during national signing day. The Vandals signed 12 during the early signing period in December.

Nosworthy was also considering Montana, as well as walk-on offers from Boise State and Oregon State.

“I just like the coaches down there,” Nosworthy said of Idaho. “I just like the vibe; all the players were super good, and I know a lot of people down there. It’s the best position for me.”

Nosworthy, a 6-foot, 190-pound wide receiver/safety, was recruited to play defense by Paul Petrino.

“He made all kinds of catches and runs for them (the Vikings) and made plays all over the place,” Petrino said.

Nosworthy was named 5A Inland Empire League Most Valuable Player after helping the Vikings to a 9-3 record and runner-up finish in the state playoffs, where they lost to Rigby in double overtime in the state title game at the Kibbie Dome in Moscow. Defensively, Nosworthy had eight interceptions, returning three for touchdowns. He also had 80 receptions for 1,200 yards and 12 touchdowns and was an All-Idaho selection as a defensive back and wide receiver.

“We’ll probably start him out at safety first as that’s where we recruited him,” Petrino said. “But I could see him in fall camp playing on both sides of the ball. He did a really good job on both sides of the ball at receiver and safety in high school.”

Idaho also added Derek Tommasini, a 6-1, 232 pound linebacker from Eagle High and Landon Rehkow, a 6-foot, 160 pound kicker/punter from Central Valley. Rehkow, the younger brother of former Vandal Austin Rehkow, will join the Vandals in 2022 after completing a two-year LDS church mission.

Dareon Nash, a 6-1 defensive back, joins the program as a graduate transfer from the University of Montana.

Idaho also added a grad transfer quarterback in Mike Beaudry from UConn. The 6-5, 255-pound Beaudry played his first two seasons at NCAA Division II West Florida, helping start that program. He led the team to the national championship game in 2017.

“He’s got a big arm, can make all the throws, and is athletic enough to run the ball,” Petrino said. “We had to make sure we got an older quarterback and a young quarterback. We got a lot of O-linemen and a lot of DBs, because last year we got a lot of skilled guys on offense, and a lot of big guys on defense.”

In the early signing period, the Vandals signed quarterback C.J. Jordan from Union High in West Camas, Wash.

Between the two signing period, Idaho inked five offensive linemen and seven defensive backs.

“I think it’s a really good class,” Idaho football coach Paul Petrino said. “Our assistant coaches did a really good job. It’s really two good classes back-to-back, so it should be really good for our future.”

Eastern Washington: After announcing 14 signees in December, an additional 12 joined the Eagles program, including Mead High’s Ben Voigtlaender, who will play defensive end in Cheney.

“I think we have a great blend of recruits with a high football IQ, and guys who want to truly compete on the football field and in the classroom,” Eastern coach Aaron Best said. “I think there is a level of mental toughness and some grit within the group overall, and we finish the signing class off in February on top of what we had already added from a foundational aspect in December.”

Washington State: The Cougars signed six players on Wednesday, after inking 17 in December.

Montana: Sandpoint High senior Brandon Casey (6-5, 265, offensive line) joined the Grizzlies program, making it 22 in this year’s class for coach Bobby Hauck.

“Having our first 10-win season since 2009 was huge for us,” Hauck said. “We really feel like we’re moving the program forward to where it ought to be.”

TraJohn Cotton and Omar Hicks Onu transferred to Missoula from Oregon State in January.

Carroll College: Max Peed, a 6-foot, 240-pound offensive lineman from Lakeland High, is part of the Saints’ initial signing class of 26.

Peed on why he chose Carroll College: “I chose Carroll for the academics, the chance to play with my older brother (Jack), and the Catholic environment.”

Jack Peed will be a junior defensive lineman this fall at the NAIA school in Helena, Mont.
