On March 30, 12 students from the Forrest Bird Charter School are off to London and Edinburgh. The students will earn three college/prep credit in each student’s choice of literature or history.

Among the students’ scheduled planned events are a visit to the House of Parliament, Windsor Castle, and of course Shakespeare Country. The Edinburgh Castle, Crown Jewels, and Holyroodhouse Palace will be among visited spots in Edinburgh.

To help the students out, Sandpoint Kiwanis Club is holding a fundraising event, at the Pour Authority on Wednesday, Feb. 12, beginning at 5 p.m. Some greatly desired gifts, via raffle tickets and a silent auction and more, are available as part of the fundraiser.

In addition, Idaho Pour Authority is donating back a percentage of the sales on beverages served from the featured brewery of the evening, the Founders Brewing Company.

“This experience and opportunity offers a tremendous educational and cultural benefit not often available for many youth,” Dan Hanson, vice president of the Sandpoint Kiwanis Club, said. “This program fits well into the Kiwanis Clubs mission statement which is, “Serving the Youth of Bonner County and North Idaho.”

Area residents can be part of this extraordinary opportunity in the lives of these youth, Kiwanis officials said. To help support this academic cultural trip, call Dan Hanson at 208-213-2465 or Mary Jensen, administrator of the Forest Bird Charter School, at 208-265-9737 — or better yet attend the festivities to have some fun and help out at the same time.
