RENTON — Moses Lake junior swimmer Zach Washburn was selected as a Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) Athlete of the Week recently.
Washburn was recognized for completing the “Iron Man” — qualifying for every event at the state swim meet. It’s the third consecutive year Washburn has completed such a feat. In addition to his success in the pool, Washburn is a 4.0 student at Moses Lake High School (MLHS).
“Zach demonstrates passion for the sport combined with excellent self discipline,” head coach Tony St. Onge said. “His natural talent combined with these qualities have made it possible for him to achieve this Iron Man status. It’s great to have this level of athlete as part of the team, especially given his strong moral conduct and character.”
The District 6 Championships continue today at MLHS with dive preliminaries at noon. The swim and dive finals begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
