CLARK FORK — Clark Fork boys basketball trailed from start to finish in a 60-46 loss to Mullan on Thursday night.
Prior to the game, the Wampus Cats honored their four seniors; Josh Constantin, Charlie Abbott, Paul Bopp and Isaac Steele.
Head coach Heath Beason said the players have been apart of the program since they were freshmen and he has enjoyed watching them improve throughout their high school careers.
“The progress that I’ve seen from them from freshmen to seniors has been incredible,” he said.
Unfortunately, Clark Fork wasn’t able to grab the win as they struggled knocking down shots and defending Mullan’s Luke Trogden who went off for 25 points.
“They wanted to play and be successful on senior night and they just didn’t play with confidence,” Beason said. “They just didn’t have that fire in their eyes.”
The Wampus Cats trailed by 11 points at the half, but they quickly cut the deficit to 3 early in the second half.
However, Clark Fork was unable to remain consistent defensively down the stretch and Mullan pulled away for the win.
Junior Cameron Garcia led the team with 17 points. Constantin had 16, Abbott scored 6, Steele added 5 and Bopp tallied 2.
“This is a frustrating loss,” Beason said. “I wish for the seniors it would’ve been a better outcome but we knew it was going to be a tough game. We always fight Mullan to the end but the better team won so hats off to them.
Clark Fork (4-11, 1-4 NSL) heads to Kootenai at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
