Thyr wins Race to the Sky 100

Seeley Lake’s Josi Thyr crossed the Race to the Sky 100 finish line at 6:48 a.m. Sunday to claim victory. The first-time winner, who has been working this winter at Jessie Royer’s kennel in Seeley Lake, finished with eight dogs.

Scott White of Snohomish, Wash. was second. He finished at 7:11 a.m., also with eight dogs. Charmayne Morrison of Bozeman was third at 7:51 a.m., Carlton, Wash. racer Christina Gibson was fourth at 8:23 a.m. and Jordan Hillock was fifth, shortly afte 9 a.m. Morrison and Gibson both finished with eight dogs and Hillock had nine.

The mushers in the six-team 300 mile race are still on the course. Four-time champion Jessie Royer reached the midway point at Owl Creek in the Swan Valley shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday. Gabe Dunham of Darby arrived roughly 3½ hours later.

Racers are expected to finish this afternoon or evening.
