Authorities said the attack was carried out by a single gunman — a disgruntled soldier who opened fire on strangers before he was fatally shot Sunday at a shopping mall. ELECTION 2020-BIDEN-SOUTH CAROLINA — Joe Biden is facing formidable competition in South Carolina, a state his campaign has long assumed was safely in his column and one he's repeatedly described as a “firewall." The first-in-the South primary Feb. 29 is an important gauge of black support, and Biden probably will need a commanding victory. Any shifts in voter sentiment could narrow a hoped-for win or relegate him to second place, threatening the viability of his campaign. By Meg Kinnard. SENT: 1,230 words, photos. TRUMP-QANON — A far-right conspiracy theory forged in a dark corner of the internet is creeping into the mainstream political arena. It's called QAnon, and it centers on the baseless belief that President Trump is waging a secret campaign against enemies in the “deep state.” Trump has retweeted QAnon-promoting accounts, followers have flocked to his rallies and at least 23 current or former congressional candidates in the 2020 election cycle have endorsed or promoted QAnon. SEXUAL MISCONDUCT-WEINSTEIN-ACCUSERS — Harvey Weinstein's sexual assault trial has unfolded this past month in a 15th-floor courtroom in New York, but its reverberations are being felt far beyond. Many of his accusers are anxiously awaiting the outcome. They wonder how the disgraced mogul's wealth and power might affect the verdict. They wince at the way fellow accusers have been treated while testifying. They recoil at the painfully familiar descriptions of Weinstein's behavior.
