Porter Jr. shines for Chiefs

SPOKANE — Bonners Ferry native James Porter Jr., stopped 25 shots for his second straight shutout in net for Spokane as the Chiefs beat the Tri-City Americans 6-0 in Western Hockey League play in front of 9.650 at the Spokane Arena on Saturday.
Porter had 18 saves in a shutout of Kelowna on Feb. 1 in Spokane.
After a scoreless first, Jack Finley scored the first two goals of the game to give Spokane a 2-0 lead. Brandon Reller scored on an assist from Post Falls native Bear Hughes to take a 3-0 lead. Luke Toporowski capped the period with a goal, extending his point scoring streak to nine games.
Adam Beckman scored his league-leading 39th goal in the third period and Ty Smith capped the scoring for Spokane, which outshot Tri-City 29-12 in the final two periods.
Spokane (29-17-4-1, 63 points) hosts Everett tonight at 5 p.m.
