MORAGA, Calif. — Jessie Loera had career-highs in points with 19 and seven steals for Gonzaga, but Saint Mary’s held the Bulldogs to four points in the first quarter and shot 26 of 46 from the field in a 70-60 win in West Coast Conference game in front of 569 on Saturday, ending the Bulldogs 21-game win streak.
Jill Townsend added 18 points for Gonzaga (23-2, 12-1 WCC), which forced 21 turnovers while committing a season-low seven turnovers.
Saint Mary’s (11-13, 6-7) finished 14 of 21 from beyond the 3-point line.
“We did not do a very good job of following the defensive game plan today,” Gonzaga coach Lisa Fortier said. “Saint Mary’s was ready to go from the tip, and we were playing catch up all game. We tried to get going inside, but we were not able to create enough offense. We could have overcome not being our best on one side of the ball or the other, but today, it was both.”
