COEUR d’ALENE — Sandpoint boys basketball picked up its second win of the season over a 5A Inland Empire League opponent Tuesday night taking down Coeur d’Alene 52-48.

“We’ve been playing very good basketball for the past several weeks,” head coach Wade Engelson said, “and just getting better throughout the season and the eight players we have playing varsity, they all are making excellent contributions when they’re on the court and it was no different today. We had outstanding defense and rebounding.”

Speaking of defense, the Bulldogs were able to clamp down on the Vikings and hold them to just 13 points in the first half. Sandpoint led 29-13 at the half.

The Bulldogs advantage swelled to 20 points in the third, but Coeur d’Alene came storming back to make it interesting down the stretch.

Senior Kobe Banks was able to knock down three free throws in the fourth to help seal the win.

“Our guys made just enough plays at the end but I’m very proud of what they did,” Engelson said. “It’s a big win for us.”

Banks led the team with 16 points, senior Ryan Roos had 14 and his younger brother, Colin, tallied 7.

Sandpoint (9-10, 0-3 IEL) heads to Rathdrum to face Lakeland at 7 p.m. Thursday in the league finale for both teams.
