Polson, Ronan wrestlers qualify for state

Polson continued its rich history in wrestling last Saturday as 15 Pirate Wrestlers qualified to compete at the 2020 MHSA All-Class State Wrestling Tournament in Billings Friday and Saturday.
The top eight finishers in each class advanced to state.
Polson finished fifth overall in the team standings with 158 total points, led by two second-place finishers, Maysn Cowell (120) and Kendrick Baker (126).
At the tournament Cowell recorded two pins in the first two rounds and a close 9-7 decision in round three before falling to Elijah Warner of Frenchtown in the finals.
Baker received a bye in the first round, followed by a second-round pin and won an 8-7 decision in the semifinals. Jake Bibler of Frenchtown pinned Baker in the finals, leaving him with a second place finish.
Ronan is sending four wrestlers to state this weekend. The Chiefs scored 47 points and placed 10th overall.
Senior Kolby Reum (145) led the Chiefs with a second-place finish in the 145-pound weight class. Reum recorded two quick pins in the first two rounds, followed with a win by decision of 9-7 in the semifinals. He finished the divisional tournament pinned in the finals by Tristian Davis of Corvalis.
Frenchtown was a runaway winner with 274 points while Browning was second with 200.5. Hamilton/Darby was third with 171 while Libby/Troy was fourth with 162.
