Marxen helps Idaho rout Eastern

Sophomore Gina Marxen hit six 3-pointers and recorded her first career double-double with 18 points and 12 assists, and the Idaho Vandals rolled to a 75-46 victory over the Eastern Washington Eagles on Thursday night in Big Sky Conference play before 707 at Reese Court in Cheney.

Idaho tied its season-high with 11 3-pointers in the game. Marxen finished 6 of 9 from behind the arc as the Vandals shot 42.3 percent from deep.

Beyonce Bea added 14 points for Idaho (14-8, 9-4 Big Sky). A layup by Nina Carlson, a junior from Lake City High, put the Vandals up by 31, their largest lead of the game, with 3:51 to play.

Bella Cravens and Jenna Dick each scored 12 points for EWU (2-20, 1-12). Grace Kirscher, a sophomore from Sandpoint High, added nine points.

EWU plays host to Portland State on Saturday.

Idaho plays host to Portland State on Monday night at 6 p.m. in the “Hoops for Hope” Pink game.

No. 15 Gonzaga 56, San Francisco 38: At Spokane, Melody Kempton, a sophomore from Post Falls, and LeeAnne Wirth scored 10 points apiece and the Zags rebounded from the loss that ended their 21-game winning streak with a win over the Dons in Gonzaga’s annual Pink game before a sold-out crowd of 6,000 at the McCarthey Athletic Center.

The Bulldogs (24-2, 13-1 West Coast Conference), after allowing Saint Mary’s to make 14 of 21 3-pointers and shoot 56.5% in a 70-60 loss, clamped down the the Dons (9-16, 2-11).

San Francisco shot 1 of 13 from 3-point range and 41% overall, was outrebounded by 10 and had 17 turnovers.

Gonzaga matched its best-ever start from the 2004-05 season with its 15th straight win at home.

Gonzaga plays host to Santa Clara on Saturday.
