Anonymous donation funds after-school program, computers

An after-school support program will begin at Glacier High School, thanks to a $25,000 anonymous donation.

The donation also allowed the district to purchase 30 Chromebooks that students may check out overnight in an effort to reach students who may not have access to computers at home.

The donation was made to Kalispell Education Foundation with the direction that it be used at Glacier High School.

“They primarily wanted to see it used for instructional support,” Glacier Principal Micah Hill said. “I don’t know who, or why, but it really provides a great opportunity.”

The plan for the after-school support program is to have three teachers available three days a week from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Hill said teachers will provide help in core subject areas. The goal is to start offering the program as soon as the positions are filled by teachers within Kalispell Public Schools. Grant funding will cover program costs through the 2020-21 school year.

Hill said the program will fulfill a need to provide a consistent time and place for students to seek after-school help.

The donation comes at a time when Kalispell Public Schools has made significant budget cuts that primarily impacted the high school district, which includes Flathead High School.
