Cougars come close, fall in Tempe

TEMPE, Ariz. — Borislava Hristova hit a floater with 14.8 seconds remaining to pull Washington State within a 60-59 deficit, but the Cougars unable to get any closer as No. 22 Arizona State triumphed 62-59 in Pac-12 Conference play in front of 2,472 at Desert Financial Arena on Friday.

Washington State (11-14, 4-9 Pac-12) trailed by as many as 12 points in the third quarter, but finished on a 17-5 run to tie the game 38-38 after three.

Bella Murekatete, a freshman from Genesis Prep, had eight points and five rebounds for Washington State.

Hristova scored 24 points for Washington State.

Arizona State is 17-8, 7-6.

Washington State travels to Arizona on Sunday at 11 a.m.
