Jenn Wirth scored 11 points and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season as No. 15 Gonzaga clinched a tie for its 16th West Coast Conference title with a 53-46 win over Santa Clara on Saturday before a sold-out crowd of 6,000 at the McCarthey Athletic Center in Spokane.

Nine players played and scored and eight played at least 14 minutes for the Bulldogs (25-2, 14-1), who have a three-game lead with three games to play and have 16 straight home wins.

“It’s awesome; it’s a feeling that never gets old,” Gonzaga coach Lisa Fortier said. “It’s always on the list of things that we are trying to accomplish. Ever since I’ve been here — for 15 years — there’s never been a season where that wasn’t at least one of the goals that we set out is to win the championship.”

Gonzaga led 30-19 at the half and the first basket of the second half produced a 32-19 lead. The first basket of the fourth quarter pulled the Broncos within six but that was as close as they would get.

Melody Kempton, a sophomore from Post Falls High, had six points and five rebounds in 17 minutes off the bench for the Zags, who clinched at least a share for their fourth straight league title.

Tia Hay topped Santa Clara (9-16, 3-11) with 13 points.

The Broncos shot 37% and were held 23 points below their season average while behind outrebounded 42-29.

Gonzaga has held 14 opponents to 50 points or less but the Bulldogs, who shoot an average of 45%, shot just 34% and were 2 of 12 from 3-point distance.

Gonzaga plays at Loyola Marymount on Thursday.

Eastern Washington 79, Portland State 75: At Cheney, Jenna Dick led four players into double figures as the Eagles broke a 12-game losing streak by beating the Vikings at Reese Court.

Jessica McDowell-White had 17 points and 13 assists for the Eagles (3-20, 2-12 Big Sky), and Bella Cravens had 18 points and 15 rebounds. Grace Kirscher, a sophomore from Sandpoint High, scored 16 points for EWU, which shot 51.9 percent from the field with 12 3-pointers.

Kylie Jiminez scored a game-high 27 points for Portland State (12-12, 6-8).

Eastern plays at Sacramento State on Thursday.
