RATHDRUM — Junior Noah Haaland had 16 points and 11 rebounds, and the Lakeland Hawks jumped out to a 27-9 lead after one quarter en route to a 76-59 victory over the Lewiston Bengals on Saturday in nonleague play at Hawk Court.

“Noah played a really good game,” Lakeland coach Dave Stockwell said of the 6-foot-5 Haaland. “He was consistent, rebounded really, really well. When he’s playing well, we’re pretty tough. I think our bigs did well against their bigs.”

Haaland scored seven of his points in the first quarter for Lakeland (16-3). Carson Seay scored six of his 15 in the opening quarter. Ammon Munyer had 10 points and eight rebounds, with six of his points in the first quarter.

Lakeland led 51-26 at halftime.

“We played a really good first half,” Stockwell said. “People were open, they were scrambling on defense, and the ball was going in. The kids are playing well right now, really starting to come together at just the right time.”

Lakeland wraps up the regular season Tuesday at Lake City, then plays host to Sandpoint on Feb. 24 in the loser-out first round of the 4A Region 1 tournament.

George Forsmann led Lewiston (12-7) with 14 points.

ST. MARIES — When St. Maries switched its defense to a 1-3-1, that’s when Brett Stancil did most of his damage for the Lumberjacks.

Stancil scored eight of his 12 points in the third quarter and finished with four steals for the Lumberjacks in a nonleague win over the Bulldogs.

“When we made that switch on defense, Brett got his hands on a lot of balls,” St. Maries coach Bryan Chase said. “He did a really good job of disrupting their offense.”

Eli Gibson had 14 points and four assists, Coleman Ross four assists for St. Maries, which led 30-13 at halftime.

“Genesee has a pretty decent team, and beat Grangeville earlier this year,” Chase said. “We knew they had some firepower. The kids did a good job of talking, calling out screens and making adjustments on the court.”

St. Maries (14-5) concludes the regular season on Tuesday at Wallace, then is off until Feb. 24 for the first game of the 2A District 1-2 best-of-3 championship series at Troy High, where the Lumberjacks will meet either Grangeville or Orofino.
