Moses Lake girls basketball is a win away from returning to the regional round of the state tournament.

The Chiefs and the Grizzlies will run it back in the District 6 championship game this Friday in Moses Lake. The winner moves on, while the loser will have to play again on Saturday for the Columbia Basin Big Nine’s second berth.

Moses Lake has largely held steady around 10th or 11th in the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association RPI rankings this season. Currently, the Chiefs (17-3) are ranked 11th and would play Issaquah (16-8), likely on the east side of the state.

Warden continues to dominate and will play La Salle for the South Central Athletic Conference district championship on Saturday. The Cougars (22-0), ranked third, have already qualified for the state tournament and would be matched up with King’s (17-6) in regionals.

In Class 1B, Odessa (16-6) is 12th and would play Clallam Bay (14-5); Moses Lake Christian (14-5) is just outside the top 16 at 17th and plays for a district championship on Thursday.

Royal (13-9) and Lind-Ritzville/Sprague (15-6) are ranked 18th and 17th, respectively.

Odessa leads the local boys’ teams with a first-place ranking and 22-0 record. The Tigers, and newly-minted state scoring leader Ryan Moffet, would play Oakesdale (17-4) for a chance at a first-round bye.

Ephrata (15-6) plays Prosser in a loser-out game tonight in Yakima. Should the 16th-ranked Tigers navigate their district tournament, they could play Black Hills (16-5). Lind-Ritzville/Sprague (16-5) is ranked 11th and would play Onalaska (16-6) and Almira/Coulee-Hartline (13-8) would play league opponent Cusick (16-5) in regionals. Royal (12-10) is on the outside at 24th and will play Kiona-Benton in a loser-out game tonight in Mattawa.
