Budding high school student entrepreneurs from the Flathead Valley proved their prowess in marketing, finance, hospitality and management to qualify for the DECA International Career Development Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.

To qualify, Flathead,Glacier and Whitefish high schools competed at the state level Feb. 9-11 in Anaconda. The top three in most events advance to the international level. There are some events where it is only the top two.

Glacier had 29 international qualifiers in addition to winning the $1,000 prize from a Shark Tank Challenge for the second consecutive year. The Glacier Wolfpack also was given the Spirit Award traveling trophy.

In its second year of competition, Flathead returned home with nine international qualifiers.

Both Flathead and Glacier achieved the Thrive level awards, earning the opportunity to send additional team members to participate in leadership training at the international conference. The two Kalispell high schools were the only ones to reach this status in Montana.

Glacier and Flathead reached the Thrive status for meeting membership growth goals. Flathead was also recognized for its work conducting promotional campaigns through school or community outreach activities.

Rory Smith of Glacier and Kelsie Ring of Flathead were named state DECA officers next year.

Whitefish had 20 international qualifiers.

The international conference will be held April 28 through May 3.
