The Idaho men’s basketball team couldn’t continue its momentum from a big win at Eastern Washington last week, as the Vandals fell at Portland State, 90-69, on Monday evening.

The Vikings’ full court pressure never let the Vandals (7-18, 3-11 Big Sky) get into an offensive rhythm, and PSU led by as many as 21 in the first halt to cruise to the conference victory.

“They did a really good job of pressuring us, getting us on our heels, and we didn’t take care of the ball well at all. We did not handle pressure well,” Idaho interim coach Zac Claus said. “We never were able to get into a rhythm with what we were trying to do.”

Trevon Allen led the Vandals with 16 points, moving into 11th place on the Vandals’ all-time scoring list. Babacar Thiombane scored a career-high nine points for Idaho while also pulling down five rebounds. He added a block, two steals, and three assists in 20 minutes of play off the bench.

Matt Hauser scored 24 points for Portland State (13-14, 7-8), shooting 6-for-10 from 3-point range.

The Vandals return home to host Northern Arizona on Thursday. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

MOSCOW — Five Vandals scored in double-digits, led by Isabelle Hadden with a season-high 16, as Idaho improved to 10-4 in Big Sky play with a convincing win over the Vikings Monday night in Cowan Spectrum.

The Vandals (15-8 overall) led by as many as 14 points in the game and held a lead over the Vikings for nearly 32 minutes.

Natalie Klinker recorded a double-double (11 points, 11 rebounds) at the 6:01 mark of the final period, as her free throws put the Vandals up 14, 59-45, their largest lead of the game. Beyonce Bea nearly gave the Vandals another double-double as she tallied 12 points and nine rebounds.

Desirae Hansen scored 17 points for Portland State (12-13, 6-9).

The Vandals will return to the road with two more games this week, facing Northern Arizona in Flagstaff on Thursday and traveling to Sacramento State on Saturday.
