Boys & Girls Club leader to join bank

COEUR d’ALENE — The only executive director in Boys & Girls Club of Kootenai County history is trading a young clientele for a slightly older and more affluent one.
After more than 13 years overseeing youth development in what’s now two clubs with 48 staff members, Davis will become business development officer for bankcda in mid-April.
“I’ve just been a little piece of a big team,” Davis said Tuesday. “I’m not leaving my support or commitment to the club. I’m just leaving my employment with the club.”
That employment began in Nov. 20, 2006, when Davis was essentially the entire staff of the new Post Falls club. Support and participation grew, and in 2012, Davis and the board of directors built the Jordan Johnson Clubhouse.
Four years later, buoyed by a gift of more than $2 million from Lola and Duane Hagadone, a 20,000-square-foot facility was built on 15th Street in Coeur d’Alene. It’s called the Lola & Duane Hagadone Boys & Girls Club of Kootenai County.
Today, according to Boys & Girls Club board chairman Randy Oaks, about 3,500 youngsters are club members. Many more use the facilities through programs with other organizations, including Post Falls and Coeur d’Alene school districts.
Oaks said Tuesday that Davis will assist in the transition to a new executive director. Like other board members and staff, Oaks is wishing Davis the best while being grateful for his contributions.
“We knew he was potentially going to look [at other career opportunities] at some point, even though we hoped he’d stick around forever,” Oaks said. “He’s the face of Boys & Girls Club.”
For some time, Davis said he’s been talking to Ron Jacobson, a business banker for bankcda and mayor of Post Falls. The opportunity to re-route his career for the benefit of his family was too good to pass up.
“Rolling into my mid-40s, this was kind of the ideal time,” Davis said.
Oaks said a trip to Boise this week will help launch the search for a replacement, who could be local or arrive via a national search.
“We’re going to find the right person who fits Boys & Girls Club and our community,” Oaks said.
