VALENTINES: Music to her ears

I got a chuckle out of your editorial on a “lesson learned for Valentine’s Day.” I remember reading your editorial in 2013 because it sounded so much like my husband. He always said that “Valentine’s Day was for unmarried sweethearts and anniversaries were for married sweethearts.” So, he would ignore Valentine’s Day and plan special out-of-town romantic trips or dinners at high-end restaurants — depending on the day of the week it fell on. I learned to be content with empty Valentine’s Days, knowing our anniversary was coming up.

I always thought that Valentine’s Day didn’t have to be expensive — a single flower or a candy bar would have been a nice way to say “I love you and I’m thinking of you.”

Then my husband started singing in a barbershop quartet and spent the entire day singing valentines to dozens of ladies. It changed his outlook and now he gets me surprises on Valentine’s Day and other days of the year, as well. We will be married 48 years this year and it keeps getting better, so, hang in there ladies.
