Chinook salmon meeting in CDA next week
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 5 years, 3 months AGO
The public is invited to provide comments and opinions on how best to manage this year’s chinook salmon fisheries in the Clearwater, Hells Canyon, Lower Salmon, Little Salmon and South Fork Salmon rivers.
Public meetings will begin at 5:30 p.m. tonight at the Lewiston Fish and Game office, and at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in Coeur d’Alene at the Idaho Fish and Game Office at 2885 W. Kathleen Avenue.
Pizza and refreshments will be provided, and biologists will discuss last year’s season, projections and how best to manage this year’s chinook run, Joe DuPont of Idaho Fish and Game said.
“Input from anglers is important to help ensure the chinook salmon run is managed in a manner that is most satisfying to all who participate in this amazing fishery,” DuPont said.
Biologists will also give presentations on controlling sea-lions — one of the Columbia River salmon’s main natural predators — ocean conditions and salmon lifecycles in salt and freshwater. The meetings will continue until angler comments are collected and addressed. The meetings will last about two hours.
Comments can also be sent to Joe DuPont, Clearwater Region Fisheries Manager, either by phone (208-799-5010), or mail (3316 16th St., Lewiston, ID 83501), or email (joe.dupont@idfg.idaho.gov). Comments on the South Fork Salmon River fishery should go to Jordan Messner (208-634-8137; jordan.messner@idfg.idaho.gov.
