Polson students place at state DECA conference

Polson High School DECA students brought home some hardware from the State Career Development Conference Feb. 9-11 at Fairmont Hot Springs.
Elisabeth Bjorge placed second in Business Growth Plan and Brooke Slonaker placed third in Community Giving Project. Josh Peck took eighth place in Principles of Marketing. Carly Garrick took seventh in Human Resource Management.
According to Polson High teacher Casey Donahue, DECA is designed to prepare emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. This is the second year of the program at Polson High School.
Polson DECA members will be attending the International Career Development Conference in Nashville, Tenn., on April 29 - May 3. Students who qualified to compete will do so in their events, while other students will attend leadership development academies to advance their leadership skills in both the school and community setting.
Students are currently fundraising to support their trip. People interested in learning more about DECA or helping fund the students experience in Nashville should email deca@polson.k12.mt.us.

Danielle Jeanette Wood pleaded not guilty to deliberate homicide during a video arraignment Tuesday before Lake County District Court Judge Deborah “Kim” Christopher at the Sanders County Courthouse in Thompson Falls. Wood is charged with deliberate homicide in connection with the death of Thompson Falls resident Matthew LaFriniere in May 2018.
