Woman charged with attempted kidnapping of her son

A Coeur d’Alene magistrate considered Eliza Salazar’s early morning visit at her son and former boyfriend’s house alarming enough to set bail at $50,000, and ordered her to stay away from the duo.
Salazar, 34, told arresting officers Tuesday that she did not bring her house key to the Post Falls residence at 2 a.m. when she broke the back door, leaving splinters and wood pieces on the floor.
The intrusion woke her former boyfriend — who takes care of the couple’s 11-month-old son. The boyfriend went to investigate and found Salazar in a bedroom cradling the infant, police said.
After the child’s father called police, Salazar fled in a black Kia, reports say.
She is charged with burglary, attempted second-degree kidnapping, possession of a controlled substance and grand theft, all felonies.
Prosecutors at Salazar’s first court appearance asked for $100,000 bail.
Public defenders said Salazar grew up in Spokane. Defense attorneys asked that bail not exceed $10,000.
The incident started early Tuesday when police responded to a 911 call on the 9000 block of North Pison Court. Former boyfriend Russell Frickey told police that Salazar had broken into his house but left without their son and was driving a Kia Soul. Salazar was detained after her car was stopped. Police said they found syringes loaded with methamphetamine inside the vehicle.
The couple did not have a custodial agreement for their son, but Frickey said the child lives with him at Pison Court.
After her arrest, Salazar told officers that she was on her way to see her son, and that she had done nothing wrong.
Her next court appearance is within 14 days in Coeur d’Alene’s First District Magistrate Court. Judge Patrick McFadden signed no-contact orders and prohibited Salazar from going near her son and Frickey.
