Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 4 years, 11 months AGO
COEUR d’ALENE — The Coeur d’Alene Public Library will host a special screening of a new Mark Titus film, “The Wild,” March 13 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room.
The program is co-sponsored by the Library Foundation and the Kootenai Environmental Alliance in conjunction with the KEA’s third annual Wild and Scenic Film Festival, coming to the Schuler Performing Arts Center at North Idaho College March 12.
Titus will open the film festival and share a trailer of “The Wild.”
His new film, a sequel to his earlier movie, “The Breach,” takes Titus back to Alaska where people of Bristol Bay and its storied salmon runs face devastation if a massive copper mine is constructed.
Titus is a writer and director and founder of August Island Pictures in Seattle. He studied acting at the University of Oregon, directing at Vancouver Film School and directing actors with Judith Weston.
Titus spent his 20s as an Alaskan fishing guide and during that time, began working on the craft of screenwriting. He finished several screenplays while living in the wilderness.
In 2004, his third script, “TSONOQUA,” won the Washington State Screenplay Competition. Since then, he has written and directed brand films for clients like Amazon, T-Mobile, Microsoft, the United Nations Development Programme and Washington’s Lottery.
As a filmmaker, Titus directed the short documentary, “Fins,” in 2003 as part of the Seattle International Film Festival’s Fly Filmmaking Program. The three shorts he’s produced since have screened at film festivals worldwide. “The Breach” was his first feature documentary. It won best international documentary in its first film festival, the 2014 Galway Film Fleadh in Ireland.
Titus will be available for questions after the screening at the library.
Admission to the library event is free, but donations are encouraged. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. A cash beer and wine bar will be provided by Bakery by the Lake. All proceeds will be divided by KEA and the Library Foundation.
