Stray animals can always become an issue if not managed appropriately. Thankfully for the feral felines of the Silver Valley, there is a group of dedicated volunteers available to help.

Since 2015, the Silver Valley Cat Wranglers have been responsible for re-homing and fixing countless numbers of stray or abandoned cats across the area.

Whether they find them themselves, were called out by a resident or law enforcement — Cat Wrangler volunteers have been here to help stop the suffering of kittens and cats in the Silver Valley.

In many cases, the Wranglers do their best to find homes for cats that they find. All of the cats they put up for adoption get fixed and vaccinated.

When finding them a home isn’t an option, they explore other options such as foster care or finding a barn for cats that can’t be domesticated.

While the organization runs on volunteer efforts, not all supplies and services they need are free.

It’s thanks to the generosity of certain people, such as 6-year-old Kyah White, that the Wranglers have what they need.

In December 2019, White’s grandmother, Diana Swindle of Wallace, contacted Donna Tunis with the Kellogg Pet Medical Center and told her about what her granddaughter wanted for Christmas.

“She wanted to collect donations of dog and cat food for Christmas instead of getting presents,” Tunis said.

Swindle has adopted a cat from KPMC and fostered many others for them in the past.

Once the food was obtained, White and Swindle came to KPMC on Jan. 4 to drop off the donations. Donations such as these help KPMC and the Cat Wranglers take care of animals in need.

The Silver Valley Cat Wranglers are hoping to raise further resources during their upcoming fundraiser on Wednesday, Feb. 26. All profits that day from The Dirty Dog Saloon will be donated to support the Cat Wranglers. A 50/50 raffle and silent auction will also be available starting at 6 p.m.
