A man in a pickup truck who struck vehicles at the Captain’s Wheel tavern in Bayview late Friday, fled, and ended up crashing through the fence of the Bayview water district, was released from jail Saturday after posting bail.
John R. Golden, 56, was arrested around 9 p.m. Friday for driving under the influence. Deputies said Golden’s blood alcohol content was between .207 and .211, more than twice the legal limit to drive, when he drove his 1992 Ford F150 pickup truck through the parking lot of the tavern before striking at least one vehicle.
Instead of stopping, Golden fled the scene.
“In his attempt to flee (he) did not make it far, losing control and crashing through a fence (and) into a shed owned by the Bayview water district ,” said Lt. Ryan Higgins of the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.
Witnesses said they walked over to the pickup, which was still spinning its wheels, and talked to Golden.
“We convinced him to hand over his keys and waited for law enforcement,” according to a witness statement.
When deputies arrived, Golden had difficulties standing and completing a field sobriety test, according to a report.
Before the pickup truck was towed, officers inventoried the contents, which included deer shed antlers, pocket knives, four .45-caliber bullets, tools, a folding chair and a coffee maker.
