For those who want to learn more about hikes to the beautiful lakes and peaks of Mineral County, plan on attending the Cabin Fever potluck at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 14, in the 4-H Building at the Mineral County Fairgrounds in Superior.

Bring your favorite dish and enjoy those prepared by others. Beverages, utensils and plates are provided.

Bert Lindler will show slides of some of the hikes enjoyed by the Healthy, Happy Hikers over the past few years. Nicknamed the Mountain/Billy Goats, this group organizes a dozen or more hikes each spring and summer to get folks onto the trails.

The season usually opens with some shorter hikes in our valleys. The focus here is for families with young children to become involved in a free healthy activity that can turn into a lifetime of outdoor recreation.

Hikes move into the mountains as the snow recedes. The mix of easier and more difficult hikes allows persons to enjoy outings suited to their needs. Hikers meet at the Darlow’s Quality Foods (formerly Castles Market) in Superior before heading to the trail.

This summer’s hikes are being sponsored by Darlow’s Quality Foods, the Mineral County Health Department Zero to Five Initiative, the Great Burn Conservation Alliance and the Montana Wilderness Association.

Once again, the Pioneer Council will have shuttle service available for a nominal fee and family rates.

Representatives from the Great Burn Conservation Alliance and the Montana Wilderness Association will say a few words before the slide show.

A draft itinerary of the 2020 hikes should be hammered out by the time of the potluck so you will be able to start planning then.

Final details will follow in posters displayed in prominent locations in Superior and St. Regis. It’s always a good time with plenty of good, home-cooked food at the Cabin Fever Community potlucks.
