River’s Edge Park will soon see a new restroom facility with flush toilets thanks to a state grant.
The City of Columbia Falls recently received an $85,000 Montana Department of Commerce state tourism grant, which will match the city’s roughly $85,000 contribution.
The grant will help pay for the restroom and improvement in the parking at the city’s most popular park.
Currently the park only has a portable toilet.
Mayor Don Barnhart has been lobbying for a toilet at the park. He’s also like to see a more developed path down to the river so folks in wheelchairs can have access.
The park is a popular place for folks to walk their dogs and access the Flathead River. It also has a fishing pond, which was dug through volunteer efforts, the city, the Flathead Land Trust, and Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks.
The new bathroom should go in this spring and will be located to the south of the existing parking lot.
