Written by Kara Emily Krantz and directed by Karen Kolar, the story centers around Charlotte and Eugene, who live a quiet, no-nonsense lifestyle surrounded by Sudoku and argyle, and Robert and Bella, who are boisterous and messy and ridiculously in love. Their neighbor Suzanne doesn’t know what’s going on, but definitely has something to say about it. Sure, relationships can be exciting. They can also be confusing, unexpected, and expose us to profound emotional risk. However, relationships are almost always worth exploring, and if we’re willing to be vulnerable, can fill up the empty or wounded spaces in our hearts. And if that doesn’t work? Well, get a dog.
“All Bark, No Bite” is a new play performed only three times, but this will be the first performance in the West.
“The play is absurd and ridiculous, but it has a beating, tender heart,” playwright Krantz said. “I hope the audiences laugh, I hope they lean in and embrace the absurdity and allow themselves to just have a good time. At the heart of it, life is ridiculous and we have to laugh at it ... I also hope audiences go home and hug their pets a little tighter — not too tight! But tight enough to feel immense gratitude for the unconditional love they give to us.”
