Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 5 years, 4 months AGO
The Vietnam Era Veterans Celebration hosted by the Running W Therapeutic Riding Center is scheduled March 21.
The event is being organized Barb Nelson, a member of several veterans support organizations, and the Kootenai County Veterans Council.
The celebration from 2 to 4 p.m. is free.
“We want children and grandchildren to see Dad or Grandpa in a setting where they can witness the appreciation we all have for their service and what important people they are,” Nelson said.
There will be a patriotic ceremony at 2:30 p.m. and a chance to meet representatives from veterans organizations.
There will be an opportunity to meet horses, watch a mustang video, play games, listen and talk to musicians, check out a fire and rescue vehicle, talk to first responders and place a carnation in the DAR Memory Wreath in honor of a loved one.
The Post Falls Food Bank is donating all the snacks, but, financial support is still needed. Sponsorships start at $10.
“This is an opportunity for our community to publicly recognize and celebrate our area’s US military personnel who served from November 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975,” a press release said. “It takes a mighty team to fight a war, and the Vietnam War effort spanned over 20 years, with no official start and no official end.”
The nonprofit Running W is at 6147 W. Harvest Ave., Rathdrum.
