KELLOGG — For the fifth year in a row, Silver Mountain will be hosting the Doug E. Fresh Banked Slalom race.

The Doug E. Fresh Banked Slalom, is a fast-paced and exciting race against time while navigating an incredibly difficult course.

The course is meticulously designed and built to accommodate the fastest of riders, while also being simple enough that anyone can try.

According to Silver Mountain marketing manager Gus Colburn, the event will be different from year’s past, but also very rewarding for the top riders.

“There are some exciting new developments with this year’s race,” Colburn said. “Doug E. Fresh is a qualifier for Dirksen Derby 2020, which is a professional banked slalom race at Mount Bachelor that only qualified riders can race in. Our sponsors have put up some great prizes for this year’s event and it’s looking like it will be a blast.”

This event is family friendly, and over the years they have averaged roughly 70 racers, and this year they are keeping registration open for the first 90 registrants.

Each racer gets two runs where they will keep their fastest time.

The event is broken into different divisions based off age and will feature an age 17 and under, age 17-29, age 30-44, and age 45 and older divisions.

The event will accompany the last night skiing event of the season, themed Ski Bum Prom, which will encourage skiers to wear their best vintage skiing outfits.

All proceeds from the race benefit the Doug Johnson Memorial Fund. Johnson was a loving father of four and avid skier who tragically passed away.

Monies generated by the Doug Johnson Memorial Fund go to benefit children in the ski and snowboard community who have lost loved ones.

The Doug E. Fresh Banked Slalom Race is Saturday, March 7, with the Ski Bum Prom following.
