Be well with the Well

COEUR d’ALENE — A new outreach program of Kroc Church is inviting Kroc Center members and non-members alike to be well in their minds, bodies and spirits.
The Well is a combination of ministry and health. It features interpersonal and reflective sessions, including "Kroc Talks," roundtable groups, life coaching, small groups and Bible studies, as well as group exercise classes, workout interest groups, nutritional classes and consulting and physical therapy consulting.
"It is completely free and open to the public," Well program coordinator and Kroc youth ministry coordinator Wade Isley said Thursday. "It's the first program like this."
The Well differs from the Kroc Rx program — which ended in spring 2018 — in how it’s aimed at bringing people closer to their faith.
"This is a more ministry-minded version of Kroc Rx," Isley said. "There's a lot more freedom in this where people have choice."
With about 100 church attendees each week and 15,000 active Kroc members, Isley said the Well will open doors for those who want to be better, healthier people all around while connecting with the church community.
"We're a church in a fitness center, and we need to take advantage of that," he said. "The Kroc was built here as a community center, so we want to open our doors to the community and say, 'This is for you, too; this is something you can be a part of.'"
Area medical professionals have already signed on to volunteer their time to help others. Physical therapists, chronic pain physicians, nutritional health coaches and more will be available during the program to assist participants with their individual needs.
"Whoever comes through the doors is who we’re supposed to serve," Isley said. "The people that come are the people that have identified they need the program."
Childcare will be provided with full curriculums for children to experience a Sunday school-style session with fitness and nutrition built in.
"We want the whole family to be able to come," Isley said.
The Well will be held Sunday afternoons from 4 to 5:30 starting this Sunday in the Kroc community rooms. Members of other churches or no churches are welcome to participate. Those interested can drop in any time.
"We want to give the opportunity to people who can't afford a membership to come use the facility," Isley said. "It's for those who just need a fresh start in working out who can't afford a gym membership. It's not a church service, just an outreach."
