Ella Hegland, 97
Ella Hegland, 97 years young, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Oct. 24, 2019. She grew up with her parents, Andrew and Emma Jorde, and seven siblings on the family farm, in Thief River Falls, Minn. There she met Jess Hegland, a city boy who stole her heart. They were married in 1940, blessed with four daughters, and celebrated 65 years of marriage in 2005.
They lived in Minnesota, Northern California and eventually they settled in Southern California in the 1950s. At their 50th wedding anniversary in California, they announced they were moving to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. They made the move and never regretted it.
Ella was a devoted Christian, a mother, wife and homemaker. In the early 1970s, she was bitten by the antique bug. From that point on, she was an early riser, hitting any and all sales to keep an impressive inventory in her stores.
In the last four years, she learned to crochet, to paint sunflowers, cardinals and eagles and to make beautiful necklaces. A day out was made perfect with a visit to a Michael’s Arts and Crafts Store, with a 40% off coupon in hand.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jess; daughter, Laurel and several sisters and a brother. She is survived by her daughters Judith (Bob) Grassell, Barbara (Dale) Jackson and Wendy (Mark) Keene; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one sister living in Coeur d’Alene and a brother in Minnesota; plus many nieces and nephews.
Ella had an enormous family of friends who loved her. Her love of the Lord and her love of life were truly an inspiration to all who knew her.
Her family welcomes you to take part in her celebration of life at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, at Lutheran Church of the Master, 4800 N. Ramsey Road, in Coeur d’Alene.
