MULLAN — The Wampus Cats nearly picked up their first North Star League win of the season, but the Tigers held Clark Fork off to claim a 49-45 victory Tuesday.

“Tough game, kids played their hearts out,” head coach Heath Beason wrote in a text.

Junior Cameron Garcia converted a layup with 30 seconds remaining to give Clark Fork a 44-41 lead. Mullan then hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 44 and on their ensuing possession, the Tigers drew a charging foul with 2.4 seconds left.

Clark Fork was assessed a technical foul on the play and Mullan hit one to give them the lead.

On the ensuing inbounds play, Garcia broke down the court and was fouled with .6 seconds remaining. Garcia made the first, tying the game at 45, but had the second called off due to a lane violation. After the play, Clark Fork received two more technical fouls and the Tigers sealed the game from the free throw line.

Garcia finished with 15 points and senior Josh Constantin added 16.

The Wampus Cats (2-6, 0-2) face Kellogg JV 7 p.m. Thursday at home.
