Democrat Debo Powers has announced her candidacy to run for the House District 3 seat. Powers was appointed to the post last fall by the Democratic Party and Flathead County Commissioners after incumbent Zac Perry resigned to further pursue his post-graduate education.

Powers, who lives in the North Fork, is a former high school teacher, K-8th grade principal, and community leader. She serves Flathead County on the Resource Advisory Committee and participated in the Whitefish Range Partnership.

Powers is having a kickoff party for her campaign at 6 p.m. Jan. 9 at Backslope Brewing in Columbia Falls.
