Only four can win it all
By MIKE PATRICK
PPP Commissioner
Your all-star Press Pigskin Prognosticators have played a grueling 261-game schedule this NFL season. And now there are just seven games left.
While each and every picker holds a special place in the hearts of us all, only four have a mathematical chance of winning first place. They are:
1. Mike Randles of Coeur d’Alene High School. Record: 168-92-1
2. Steve Cameron of The Press. Record: 166-94-1
3. CDA Police Chief Lee White. Record: 164-96-1
4. STCU’s Suzanna Spencer. Record: 162-98-1
Two more, Mike Kennedy of Intermax Networks and Jim Hightower of Domino’s Pizza, have a slim chance of sneaking past White into third place. Even last-place “leader” Anne Hagman can’t completely count on capturing her consolation award of one-quarter page ad for Heritage Health. Jared Staples (Papa Murphy’s Pizza) and Jim Winger (Lake City High) are both within reach of failing on a grander scale than Anne.
The League’s point is this: There’s still plenty of prognosticating to be done. So hold on tight, fans.
Meanwhile, The League asked for and received nominations for political office from some of the more pugnacious pigskin pickers. Here’s a sampling so far.
SUZANNA SPENCER: I would like to nominate Anne Hagman as Organizational Chief of Police. Anne not only can clean a closet, desk or car trunk in a single bound, she can also have a deep conversation about the importance of Del Taco deals on Taco Tuesday or the mastery of her son James in his first year as a driver on the snowy roads while cleaning and organizing.
So much for the friendly banter. Leave it to Kennedy and White to ratchet the discussion down a notch or 283.
MIKE KENNEDY: I nominate Jim Winger for Superintendent of Public Instruction. There’s nothing more American than failing up!
LEE WHITE: I’ll nominate Mike Kennedy for Coroner. He has a history of closely examining and then picking things (teams) that got beat to death.
PAT KNIGHT, Post Falls police chief: Now that’s just darn right funny!!!
KENNEDY (again): I’ll await the other nominations from other people before I rain hellfire and damnation down on you law enforcement suck-ups.
While we’re all awaiting hellfire, check out the current standings and this week’s playoff picks inside today’s Sports on Page B4.
