SURCHARGES: Diners shouldn't eat them

I thought your Consumer Gal’s Jan. 2 comments were right on. Satay is one of the highest priced restaurants in the area and is mimicking what I’ve seen in small restaurants in less-developed countries: surcharges for credit cards … not the international vibe I’m looking for.

The last time we ate at Satay, and the last time we will eat at Satay, we were introduced to this “new policy” when presented with the bill. Now, we always tip in cash, but did not have $200-plus in cash, so paid the “penalty.” The server equated it to the cash discount at some gas stations. So Satay = some gas stations. Should make for an interesting logo and slogan.

Rob Elder’s explanation opens new possibilities he ought to explore:

- A $5/table credit if you bring your own linens.

- A $3/person credit if you bring your own dishes, silverware and glasses.

- A $0.50 credit for each Tupperware you bring for leftovers.

Hopefully, he’ll advertise these discounts in the near future.
