COEUR d'ALENE — A musical performance for the whole family inspired by stories from the North Idaho gold rush of the 1880s will be presented at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Coeur d’Alene Public Library Community Room.

The 45-minute production follows Noah Kellogg and William R. and Lucy Wallace on their adventures in the Silver Valley. It's a story of the realities of the time, plus a little imagination. This musical provides a practical understanding of life as a prospector and tells of the perseverance and hard work of Kellogg and Wallace.

It is brought to life through music, lively characters, heartwarming relationships, as well as comedic and creative storytelling. It offers the opportunity to learn about local history, perseverance, prospecting, pioneers, railroads and a rambunctious donkey.

There will be a question-and-answer session with the cast after the show.

This free performance is offered in partnership with Coeur d’Alene Summer Theater and the CST to School program, which brings professional actors and musicians into schools.

Established in 1967, CST is Idaho's oldest performing arts organization. It became a nonprofit in 1984. CST specializes in

production of full-scale Broadway musicals during the months of June, July and August.

CST performers are recruited nationally and many have gone on to appear in film, television and in professional venues, including Broadway stages and tours. It also features orchestrations performed by the region's most accomplished musicians.

Visit www.cdasummertheatre.com/cst-to-school.html for information about the performance.

In other news, the first literary trivia night to benefit the library will be held at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 21 at the Crown and Thistle, 107 N. Fourth St., Coeur d'Alene. The competition will be in teams of four people. The entry fee is $40 per team. Win prizes and enjoy tasty food and beverages. The Crown and Thistle will donate a percentage from the food and beverage purchases to the Library Foundation. For information, call 208-769-2380.

Also, the annual Seed Swap will be from 1-3 p.m. Jan. 25 in the Community Room. Bring extra seeds — home-saved or purchased — to share with others and go home with some seeds for spring and summer planting. Learn about seed saving from some of the region’s avid seed savers, and take home seed varieties that can't be found anywhere else and that are well-adapted to North Idaho's growing conditions.

No seeds to swap? Come anyway, and consider making a donation to help cover costs and help the seed program grow. A donation is not necessary to participate.

The Seed Swap is offered in partnership with the Inland Northwest Food Network and True To Seed: Coeur d’Alene Seed Lending Library. For information contact Char Beach at [email protected] or call 208-769-2315 x 651.
