MOSES LAKE — The shots just weren’t falling for Moses Lake.

Close, far, it didn’t matter.

Then Madisyn Clark decided to force the issue. Clark scored all 13 of Moses Lake’s points in the third quarter to keep West Valley at bay and the Chiefs won 49-39.

“We needed something to happen offensively and she was able to create something for us and then when she does that it opens up other things for other people,” head coach Matt Strophy said.

Clark did most of her work driving to the basket, finishing with a game-high 21 points.

Offense was a grind throughout the game.

Ariel Winslow scored West Valley’s first six points and the Rams led most of the first quarter until Clark scooped in a left-handed shot as time expired to give Moses Lake a 10-9 lead. With West Valley’s 6-foot-2 post Gillyan Landis on the bench with two fouls, Moses Lake opened the second quarter on a 7-0 run.

However, the Rams continued to hang around, never falling behind by a large margin.

“They (West Valley) do a good job of making us do things we don’t like to do and take us out of our comfort zone, which we were out of our comfort zone,” Strophy said. “Definitely more for us to work on because we’re obviously not peaking right now because we did not play well tonight, but at the same time if we don’t play well and we can still win by 10, I’ll take that every single day of the year.

A lay-up from Winslow in the third quarter drew the Rams within one point, 23-22, before Clark went on her scoring run.

Anna Olson scored six of her 10 points in the fourth quarter and Clark intercepted a pass at the end of the game, allowing time to expire.

“I would like to see us get a little stronger mentally, tougher physically and play the game the way that we’re capable of playing, especially as we’re getting close to the second half of our league,” Strophy said.
