The Whitefish speech and debate team had another solid outing at the Frenchtown Invitational.
The team took second behind Columbia Falls in sweepstakes points with four overall champions. Frenchtown was third.
Abigail Bowden won impromptu, Aidan Reid won original oratory, Bethany Barnes took first in informative, and Eden Scrafford took first in humorous interpretation.
Several other Bulldogs had strong performances. Bowden took second in extemporaneous, Danika Tintzman second in memorized public address, and Adrienne Healy took third in impromptu.
Head coach Sara Mueller said despite some issues in getting down to Frenchtown, her team showed up to compete.
“I’m most proud of the team’s ability to overcome adversity as we had some struggles in getting to the tournament. The team had to manage their emotions and perform well despite these problems that were beyond our control,” she said. “This was great practice for the rest of the season. Difficulties arise at all levels of competition, and success favors those who remain unflustered.”
The team heads down to Polson on Saturday for their next competition.
Whitefish High School is looking for judges for the Class A State Tournament, which will be on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 in Whitefish.
Interested judges may contact Mueller at 862-8650 ext. 355 for more information.
