DEATH PENALTY-TENNESSEE

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee death row inmate Nicholas Sutton should be spared from execution because he transformed himself in prison from a killer to someone who saved the lives of prison employees and fellow inmates, his attorneys argue in a clemency petition.

TENNESSEE-FAITH-BASED ADOPTION

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee announced Tuesday that he'll sign into law a measure that would assure continued taxpayer funding of faith-based foster care and adoption agencies even if they exclude LGBT families and others based on religious beliefs.

—SENATE 2020-TENNESSEE, from Nashville: Donald Trump Jr. is coming to Tennessee later this month to help raise money for Republican Bill Hagerty in his bid for an open U.S. Senate seat.

—DES MOINES FLIGHTS, from Des Moines, Iowa: Allegiant Air announced Tuesday it will add three new nonstop flights — to Memphis, Tennessee; Austin, Texas; and Chicago — from the Des Moines International Airport.

—RUSSELL STOVER CONSOLIDATION, from Kansas City, Mo.: Russell Stover Chocolates plans to close some facilities and stores nationwide but the expected loss of about 400 jobs will be offset by new jobs resulting from expansion in other areas, the company announced Tuesday.

—STUN GUN CHARGES, from Ashland City: A former corrections officer at a Tennessee jail accused of repeatedly using a stun gun on a restrained detainee has been convicted of using unnecessary force.

—VANDERBILT-SUSTAINABILITY, from Nashville: Vanderbilt University has committed to diverting 90% of its waste from the landfill by the year 2030.
