The 14th annual Art for Human Rights Exhibit opens Thursday at Evans Brothers Coffee Roasters, 524 Church St., with an artists’ reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Hosted by Pend Oreille Arts Council, this event showcases the talented art created by high school art students in Lake Pend Oreille School District. Each piece of original art depicts the interpretation of human rights issues as observed by the artist.

“This exhibit aligns with one of America’s dedicated human rights activists, Martin Luther King Jr., which is why it coincides with MLK Day.” Hannah Combs, POAC Executive Director, said. “Art students from Clark Fork and Sandpoint High Schools are participating.”

In 1948 the United Nations adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This declaration guarantees the rights of all people and encompasses a broad spectrum of economic, social, cultural, political and civil rights. The public is invited to come see how local students reveal their thoughts and creativity in illustrating these import aspects of life.

This show is on exhibit through Jan. 30.
