TRINIDAD – An Ephrata woman and an East Wenatchee man were both sent to hospitals with serious injuries after a head-on collision on state Route 28 several miles west of Trinidad in Douglas County.
Joshua Vines, 33, of East Wenatchee, was traveling eastbound on the highway near milepost 19 at about 6:50 a.m. when he saw a deceased deer in the roadway, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Vines swerved out of the way to avoid colliding with the carcass, but crossed over the center line and struck the vehicle of Wendy Nevarez Macias, 40, of Ephrata, who was traveling westbound.
Both vehicles came to rest on the westbound shoulder and were declared totaled. Vines was airlifted from a regional hospital to Harborview and is in critical condition, according to law enforcement. The WSP press release said Nevarez Macias was transported to Confluence Health-Central Washington Hospital, Wenatchee.
