SCI—HOTTEST DECADE

WASHINGTON — Two U.S. agencies say the decade that just ended was by far the hottest ever measured on Earth, capped off by the second-warmest year on record. And scientists say there is no doubt at all this is man-made climate change. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said Wednesday that the 2010s averaged 58.4 degrees Fahrenehit (14.7 degrees Celsius) worldwide, or 1.4 degrees (0.8 C) higher than the 20th century average and more than one-third of a degree warmer than the previous decade, which had been the hottest on record. ALBANY, N.Y. — New York has become the 10th state to allow adopted adults unrestricted access to their original birth certificates, a step that will help some people investigate their family histories. By Marina Villanueve. SENT: About 850 words.

GIRLFRIEND SLAIN —A New Jersey man is seeking to withdraw his guilty plea to manslaughter in the stabbing death of his 16-year-old ex-girlfriend.

STRAY BULLET-GIRL KILLED — A jury must now decide the fate of one of the suspects charged in the death of a 9-year-old girl hit by a stray bullet as she slept in her bed in her New Jersey home.

TEEN SHOOTING-REVERSAL — A state appeals court ruled Wednesday that a convicted teenager's comments to his mother shouldn't have been used against him when police were investigating a 2016 shooting.

MOTHER KILLED-SON CHARGED — A teenage boy who allegedly attacked and killed his mother last summer as his younger brother watched will be tried as an adult.

CONSTRUCTION SITE ACCIDENT — Authorities say a construction worker was seriously injured when a large piece of sheet metal fell on him.

SHOOTINGS-JERSEY CITY-POLICE — Three police officers who have been credited with preventing further bloodshed during last month's attack on a kosher market in Jersey City are being promoted.

FBN—HALL OF FAME-CENTENNIAL CLASS

— Former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue has made the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his fifth attempt. Tagliabue and former New York Giants general manager George Young made it as contributors. Ex-Dallas Cowboys safety Cliff Harris and former Cleveland receiver Mac Speedie completed the centennial class. The class of 10 senior candidates, three contributors and two coaches are part of the hall's celebration of the NFL's 100th season. Also going into the hall are Harold Carmichael, Donnie Shell, Steve Sabol, Bobby Dillon, Jim Covert, Winston Hill, Duke Slater, Ed Sprinkle, Alex Karras, Bill Cowher and Jimmy Johnson.
