Mission Valley football players Ryker Wenderoth and Bo Kelley of the Polson Pirates were named to the 74th annual Montana East-West Shrine game.

Wenderoth was selected for the roster as cornerback, while Kelley was named as an alternate at linebacker.

Wenderoth earned dual all-state recognition as a leading receiver as well as defensive back for the Pirates. On defense this past season, Wenderoth tallied nine interceptions, 10 pass breakups and five fumble recoveries. He culminated three seasons of prep varsity action with over 1,200 career reception yards and more than 2,000 all purpose yards.

This was the second all-conference acknowledgement for Wenderoth, an honorable mention at cornerback last year.

Pirate plaque preference Burger-larized by Bulldogs

At Smith Fields in Whitefish for the 2018 State A boys soccer championship, the Polson Pirates and the Northern A conference champion Bulldogs would put on quite a show in an energetic quest to claim the coveted state A crown last Saturday. This would be just the third foray to the championship match in the history of the Pirate boys’ soccer program, who hoped that the idiomatic expression “third time’s a charm” would play out in Polson’s favor.
