COEUR d’ALENE — In solidarity with peaceful protesters across the nation, Right to Life of Coeur d'Alene will hold its annual March for Life from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Skate Plaza.
"It has been going strong," Right to Life Coeur d'Alene board member Connie Frank said Tuesday. "This year we even have new churches involved."
For about 40 years, right-to-life supporters and advocates have rallied in the Lake City to stand against abortion and promote alternatives such as foster care and adoption.
"People are stepping forward and saying, 'That's not right,'" Frank said. "At some point, someone's got to get involved and say, 'Enough.'"
The Coeur d'Alene Right to Life Rally is held each January in conjunction with the national March for Life rally, which has been held in Washington, D.C. every year since the announcement of the Roe v. Wade decision made Jan. 22, 1973.
The landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling supported the constitutional right for a woman to choose to have an abortion. It was legalized under the 14th Amendment.
With so many options to prevent pregnancy, Frank said, the decision to choose life just makes sense.
"Now there are people who are adopting embryos," she said. "Doesn't that show when life begins?"
Frank said Right to Life isn't just against abortion, but the value of life "from conception to natural death."
The rally will feature several speakers, including Dr. Richard Hawk of Open Arms Pregnancy Care Center and Real Choices Clinic in Coeur d'Alene; local dad and teacher Daniel Connelly with the 40 Days for Life anti-abortion nonprofit; and Pat Connell of No One Shall Die Alone (NOSDA), a ministry dedicated to making sure people are not alone in their last hours.
Attendees will participate in a short march along the highway. Signs will be provided by Right to Life Coeur d'Alene. All ages are welcome.
"People should come out who have children, and bring their children," Frank said. "If you see your parents stand up for something, it makes an impression on you."
