Sandpoint Idaho Cornhole is holding an American Cornhole League regional tournament on Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Bonner County Fairgrounds indoor arena.
It all “tosses off” at 10 a.m. with “Bring Your Own Partner” doubles and three skills levels for participants to enter. Following BYOP doubles, there will also be ACL Swap at 2 p.m., a fun interactive random team pairing competition for all skill levels, and then finally singles at 6 p.m.
“Our aim is to have fun growing the sport of cornhole by providing a comfortable environment for every type of player, whether your new and upcoming or avid competitive player,” said Mack Deibel, SIC co-founder and ACL regional director. “We would love to invite you all out to play some cornhole with us and enjoy yourself competing in a fun game taken from your backyard to now on ESPN. We are officially allowing youths 12-18 years of age to compete in social division as well.”
Both singles and doubles competitions have three skill divisions: social, competitive and advanced that encompass your casual or new player, backyard/tailgating intermediate player and all the way up to serious competing players and ACL pros. Registration prices are $15 social, $20 competitive and $25 advanced per player for each singles (6 p.m. first toss) and doubles competition (10 a.m. first toss). ACL swap will be $15 per player for everyone. The divisions payout a percent of their cash registrations and there is added money and prizes thanks to their sponsors. $5 discount for ACL members; with ACL membership available on site the day of the tournament.
“ACL Swap is a ton of fun: you don’t need a partner to play and compete, you meet new individuals by playing with a random set partners in pool play, and then you get matched up for a final play-off tournament based on your standings,” said James Mize, SIC co-founder and ACL pro player.
Cornhole is a game where a player traditionally tossed a corn filled bag at a sloped board with a 6-inch in hole in it. When the bag lands and stays on the board, it’s worth 1 point. When the bag goes in the hole, it’s worth 3 points. Visit iplaycornhole.com for more information.
There is also a Friday Night fun Crew Cup social event on Jan. 17 open to adults 21 years of age or older at MickDuff’s Beer Hall. Crew Cup is a random four-person team competition. Register as a single and meet your teammates when you get there!
